PADERBORN, Germany - For successfully introducing self-service systems with an intelligent-deposit function, Wincor Nixdorf Internationalcustomer Interbank Peru won an award from PricewaterhouseCoopers for "corporate creativity" in the banking-services segment. The prize ceremony was held in Lima, Peru, at the end of November.
According to a news release, Wincor integrated 115 multifunctional ATMs into the bank's IT landscape, enabling customers to deposit checks and cash as well as pay bills. The systems also can accept and dispense bank notes and coins in two currencies, Peru's Nuevo Sol and the U.S. dollar. To date, Wincor's ProCash 2100xe systems have been installed across Peru at Interbank's subsidiaries and at off-premises locations.
The technology is expected to help move transactions from the bank's counters to the self-service channel.
Few Peruvians have bank accounts, so most simply make cash transactions at the teller window. For Interbank Peru, it became necessary to reduce the number of counter transactions.
Up to 50 bank notes per transaction can be accommodated by the ATMs. When payment is made by check, the amount is posted instantly and a receipt printed. Bank customers without bank cards only press a button to proceed with their transactions.
Interbank Peru is one of the country's largest financial institutions, with more than 110 subsidiaries and some 550 ATMs.
