Demand for ATM-security software increases
June 2, 2008
VILNIUS, Lithuania — According to a recent study by the European ATM Security Team, skimming-related ATM-fraud losses increased 40 percent in Europe in 2007.
At the same time, Lithuania-based software vendor Penkiu Kontinentu Bankines Technologijos UAB reports that demand is up for anti-fraud software.
"Sales of our multivendor-ATM-surveillance system ATMeye have increased almost 25 percent over last year, and the first quarter of this year is even better," said Karolis Macionis, software sales director of Penkiu Kontinentu. "The biggest increase was in the markets where ATMs are not EMV-compliant."
Macionis says more ATMeye installations are being made this year across machines manufactured by major vendors, such as NCR Corp., Diebold Inc. and Wincor Nixdorf International. By the end of the first quarter of 2008, more than 21,000 installations of the ATMeye software had been made in 60 countries.
ATMeye addresses ATM vandalism, conflicts and fraud cases by capturing snapshots and storing video of users at the ATM. The software also integrates visual information with the ATM's internal application, allowing the bank or software customer to conveniently sort, search and select the images, rather than having to search through hundreds of hours of video cassettes.
