Biometric ATM in India uses Linux

ePaynews: Indian ATM and POS technology firm AGT Electronics is developing a prototype of a biometric ATM that runs on the Linux operating system. AGT says the ATM could be used for dispensing government welfare payments in addition to cash dispensing. The ATM is built on Linux to help cut the ATM's development costs. The first version will use smart-card technology, but the company expects to implement a biometrics feature soon after the prototype's launch.
