Wincor Nixdorf announces new generation of check- and cash-deposit modules

November 17, 2008

PADERBORN, Germany — It is now even easier to input checks and banknotes into ATMs, according to a news release from Wincor Nixdorf. The new generation of Wincor Nixdorf's check- and cash-deposit modules can now do more than accept bulk deposits of up to 50 checks or 50 banknotes. The module has been optimized so that it can accept and process mixed bundles of checks and banknotes, regardless of the way they are presented, even including checks with MiCR.

"This innovation has allowed us to increase our lead over our competitors and offer bank customers an even better service with the new technology," said Alan Walsh, sales director at Wincor Nixdorf USA.

The new system also has more cassette capacity, so armored car services need to attend less often to empty the system.

Wincor Nixdorf has already installed more than 20,000 ATMs with CCDMs worldwide.

"We are offering banks the opportunity to upgrade their existing installations with the new technology," said Walsh. "This will allow them to standardize their system landscape, which will not only make maintenance easier but also will benefit consumers, who will find devices everywhere that they can operate in the same way."
With its intelligent deposit system, Wincor Nixdorf is automating the entire cash- and check-handling process and shortening the cash cycle from the very beginning. Cash and checks are validated using the latest precise image-processing technology. The entire posting process is automated. There is no need to process cash or checks manually. The costs of cash logistics are cut significantly, without any reduction in availability. Interest paid and the cost of replenishment and emptying are reduced, while the cash supply is made more secure.

According to Tower Group analysts, each deposit made in an envelope at an ATM costs U.S. $1.70, and each counter transaction costs U.S. $1.40. By scanning bundled check deposits, Wincor Nixdorf's systems cut the costs to the bank to just U.S. $0.40 per transaction.
