REPORT: ATM use continues to rise in U.K.

(England) Banking Business Review:According to a new report fromU.K.payments association APACS, cash demands met by ATMs have almost doubled in the last 10 years. APACS found that 65 percent ofU.K.users' cash demands were met through ATMs in 2006, up from only 34 percent in 1996. The number of ATM withdrawals went from 1.6 billion in 1996 to 2.8 billion in 2006, with total withdrawal amounts more than doubling, from £80 billion in 1996 to £180 billion. Cashback at the POS also has been on upswing, APACS says.
