Canadian retailer moves forward with chip-and-PIN migration

ePaynews: Canadian Tire, one of Canada's largest retailers, says that all 468 of its Canadian Tire Retail-branded stores will be ready to accept MasterCard EMV chip-and-PIN cards by the end of 2008. Visa and Interac, Canada's debit-scheme operator, are expected to make announcements in the near future about their chip-and-PIN cards being accepted at Canadian Tire Retail stores. After Dec. 31, domestically-issued magnetic-stripe cards will no longer be accepted at Canadian ATMs.
