Biometrics hits ATMs in rural India

(India) Express Computer: ATMs with biometric devices are the latest solution in the ongoing effort to offer banking services to rural masses in India. And to boost microfinancing initiatives, banks are deploying biometrics at ATMs to establish the identity of a rural depositor who might be illiterate or barely literate. The push is expected to help banks in the country convert unbanked consumers to banked customers. Chennai, India-based Financial Software and Systems recently launched its Biometric ATM Interface Solution, which connects ATMs in the country with biometric support to EFT switches.
