Triton releases TDL Gateway wireless modem

October 2, 2011

Today Triton Systems announced the availability of the TDL Gateway wireless modem, designed specifically for Triton ATMs that operate on MS Windows CE over TCP/IP.

“Many other vendors offer what is known as a ‘spoof box,’ which basically plugs into the telephone jack on the back of the machine and converts the signal to wireless,” said James Phillips, Triton’s vice president of sales and marketing. “In those cases, for a dial-up ATM, the machine still goes through the same slow steps that it would normally go through for a dial-up transaction. You still have that ‘handshake’ delay that occurs.”

According to a company press release, Triton’s solution is designed to work with its ATM software and ATM monitoring solution, Triton Connect, and is a completely wireless transaction from start to finish.

The result is that the transaction speeds are faster than those accomplished with a "spoof box," and the higher data throughput speed allows for easier ad screen downloads, reporting and journal uploads via Triton Connect.

“Most of the ATMs out in the field today that still use dial-up services can cost $45 a month or more. Shifting to wireless generally cuts connectivity costs in half or more,” Phillips said.
