Some banks offer to drop ATM fees

The Daily Record: Banks rely on ATM fees and surcharges as major sources of income. But in an effort to compete with national chains crowding the local marketplace, some area banks have decided to pick up the tab for customers.Smaller banks are already at a disadvantage against the larger institutions that can offer more branches and larger ATM networks. On top of that, banks like PNC Bank, Commerce Bank and Citibank have stopped charging some customers for using out-of-network ATMs and are reimbursing them for ATM fees charged by other banks. To be competitive, some smaller financial institutions are following suit.
