The Association of Banks in Singapore announced that every public housing block in the country will have at least one ATM, bank branch or cash access point by the end of 2027. In addition, Singapore retail banks DBS, OCBS and UOB aim to have one of these three services within 1,640.42 feet of public amenities such as transport hubs and supermarkets by the end of 2026, according to a report by Channel News Asia.
These cash access points are merchants that allow customers to withdraw cash via card while making a purchase. This service aims to keep cash around for seniors who rely on cash.
It also aims to address the declining numbers of ATMs and branches in the country. This is part of an overall effort on the ABS to support seniors, including working with the Agency for Integrated Care to help staff spot signs of cognitive decline in customers.
