Deutsche Bahn customers at the Aschaffenburg, Germany travel center can now use their Girocards to withdraw cash, as well as purchase tickets. This cash service is the result of a pilot project launched jointly by Deutsche Bahn, Postbank and Wincor Nixdorf.
The service enables customers to withdraw cash from their accounts in conjunction with a personal PIN. Customers key in the PIN on a separate card reader, and their cash is then handed out to them by Deutsche Bahn staff.
The new cash service in Aschaffenburg is free of charge for Postbank and Cash Group (Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank and HypoVereinsbank) customers, while clients of other banks pay a EUR 1.95 charge for the service.
In addition to cash withdrawals, the operator-assisted cash dispensers from Wincor Nixdorf’s new CINEO system generation also offer conventional POS functions. Cash input during the payment process is automatically stored in a safe.
The pilot will last six months, and based on its success, will then roll out to other travel centers.
