France-based Oberthur Technologies, a provider of security and identification solutions and services based on smart card technologies, today announced that it has finalized plans to open a secure service center in Ottawa, Ontario.
The 15,069 square-foot facility will enable the personalization of secure devices and documents (including magnetic stripe and EMV cards as well as SIM cards and identification credentials) for customers throughout Canada.
Oberthur Technologies already supplies contactless cards to Montreal’s transit system and SIM cards to major Canadian telecom operators. The new facility will be fully operational with payment association certifications in Q4 of this year, and ready to produce VISA, MasterCard and Interac cards.
The facility further expands the Oberthur presence in North America; the company has existing service centers in Los Angeles and Chantilly, Va., as well as an EMV-capable manufacturing site in Exton, Pa.
“Oberthur Technologies’ proven global ability to meet customer needs in the payment, telecom and ID markets coupled with the booming Canadian demand in these key segments are at the center of our decision to open a facility in Canada,” said Martin Ferenczi, managing director of the Americas Region at Oberthur Technologies, “Oberthur Technologies is confident that the Canadian market will respond positively to our expertise in providing a broad array of solutions for complete card personalization."
