First Canadian chip card trial planned

ePaynews: The Canadian payments industry has set the date for the country's first EMV chip-and-PIN card trial. The trial will take place in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, with the first chip-card transactions expected in the fall 2007. Interac, Canada's debit and ATM network operator, will participate in the trial, along with MasterCard, Visa and several other issuers and processors. The names of the banks taking part in the pilot have not been disclosed.
