The Regional Transportation District of Denver has added Discover to its Tap-n-Ride payment options, joining Visa, Mastercard, and mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay). Passengers can tap their credit/debit card or smart device directly on bus or rail validators for immediate, secure fare payment, according to a press release.

Since its launch, Tap-n-Ride has generated over $1 million in contactless payments, processing more than 35,000 transactions in September 2026 alone. The system operates via a secure open payment network without storing card numbers, eliminating the need for cash, ticket vending machines, or preloaded app funds.

Riders must use the same card for automatic fare capping. There is one card per rider, while riders aged 19 and under can ride for free.

The expansion aligns with growing digital adoption—electronic fare collection reached $13.7 million by July 2026. A prior RTD survey found that nearly 90% of riders have access to payment cards, confirming broad accessibility for contactless transit options across RTD's 235 stations and fixed-route bus fleet.
