The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation recovered more than $15,000 for a victim of a bitcoin ATM fraud. This organization has assisted with 309 fraud cases with $5.6 million in losses from crypto ATM scams, according to a press release.
The funds were returned to a 63-year old resident of Allen County who was asked by a scammer to send money via a crypto ATM over claims that her device had been hacked.
"Crypto ATMs are a favorite tool for scammers looking to steal victims' hard-earned money," Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson said in the release. "It is time that, as a state, we look at taking action to protect Ohioans from these criminal tools. Ohio consumers should be extremely cautious when someone asks you to send cryptocurrency – a scam might be right around the corner."
