The transit system in the Pennsylvania capital region of Harrisburg plans to launch a smartcard and mobile pay system called rabbitPAY on July 21. With this service, riders can load up transit passes via mobile app, vending machines, and rabbittransit's website, according to a report by The Burg News.
The system will be live for the Capital Region, Gettysburg, Shippensburg and York routes. In addition, rabbitransit will raise rates with a 31-day adult pass increasing from $49 to $55. In addition, customers who use cash will have to pay $2 for a fixed route, while rabbitPAY users will pay $1.80.
Customers can tap their phone or card at point of payment to use the system.
"RabbitPAY makes riding transit as easy as tapping your phone or smart card," Richard Farr, executive director of rabbittransit, told the news outlet. "Our goal is to remove barriers and make public transportation even more convenient, accessible, and user-friendly. Whether you're commuting to work, heading to an appointment, or exploring the region, rabbitPAY provides a simple and seamless way to pay for your trip."
