PADERBORN, Germany - Wincor Nixdorf International has developed a new security solution for ATM networks using Cisco's endpoint security technology.
According to a news release, Wincor's Platform Security Agent - developed using Cisco Security Agent - helps protect self-service system platforms against network and local attacks. Wincor says it plans to immediately integrate the PSA as a security module within its self-service system platform.
As ATM devices act more as multimedia self-service kiosks running on converged Internet protocol networks, Wincorf's reliance on Cisco and CSA will help financial institutions strengthen security, the company says. All non-authorized actions are graded as threats and the affected application is deleted from memory.
Wincor says the process hinders the unauthorized download of new software to an ATM network and keeps attackers from making changes to existing software components.
"With the Cisco Security Agent, you don't have to experience the effects of an attack before you can stop it," said Alan Kirby, vice president of engineering for Cisco's security business unit. "CSA enables Wincor Nixdorf's PSA solution to help users employ better network defense tactics."
