Vodafone and mobile monetization specialist Digital Virgo have partnered to integrate standardized Open Gateway Network APIs into mobile payment and carrier billing systems across Europe and Africa, according to a report by Tech Africa News.

The collaboration will initially launch in five markets—Germany, Greece, Spain, South Africa, and the U.K.—with plans to expand to additional countries. Digital Virgo will integrate Vodafone Network APIs into its platforms, serving more than 300 merchants and 150 mobile operators.

The partnership focuses on two security and user-experience upgrades: replacing traditional SMS One-Time Passwords with silent "Number Verify" technology for faster authentication, and combining APIs such as Know Your Customer (KYC) Match and SIM Swap detection to strengthen fraud prevention during merchant onboarding and account protection.

Supported by the GSMA Open Gateway initiative and CAMARA standards, the integration gives developers a common framework to access telecom network features securely.

"Vodafone's partnership with Digital Virgo will make our secure network capabilities available to more enterprises through standardized APIs," Johanna Wood, director of Network APIs at Vodafone, said in the report. "As smartphones become the default way for people to shop and bank online, the network is playing a critical role in enabling trusted e-commerce services."
