Visa US-based chip transactions top 1B in March

In March, the number of U.S. consumer transactions on Visa chip cards topped 1 billion for the first time. The new statistic represents an increase of 330 percent over March 2016, the company said in a press release.
Other stats from March 2017:
- there are now more than 421 million Visa chip cards in the country, representing 58 percent of the total;
- the number of chip-enabled merchant locations in the country reached 2 million — representing 44 percent of stores that accept Visa;
- chip-ready merchants now account for nearly half of Visa in-store payment volume; and
- counterfeit fraud has continued to decline and is down 58 percent at chip-enabled merchants in December 2016, compared with the previous year.
