Verifone's contactless solution receives industry award

July 17, 2008

LONDON — VeriFone Holdings Inc. was honored during the European Retail Solutions Awards 2008 conference for its contactless-payment solution.

According to a news release, the award was granted to VeriFone and U.K. retailer EAT for the successful installation of a fully integrated contactless-payment system in a retail environment. Solution providers Commidea and Common Sense EPoS worked with VeriFone on the project.

Using a VeriFone Vx 510 countertop payment system running Commidea's pre-certified Ocius software with VeriFone's contactless reader, the solution was developed to offer EAT customers options for payment, whether using cash, contactless card or chip and PIN.

For contactless transactions of £10 and less, customers can use a contactless payment method. The contactless system has proved popular and has reduced waiting times.

EAT's first integrated contactless solution was installed at its Moorgate branch in London. Since then, 200 VeriFone contactless readers have been installed in EAT stores in Greater London, with plans for an additional 200 readers to be deployed in the near future.
