United Commercial Bank joins Pulse ATM network, accesses China UnionPay

May 14, 2007

HOUSTON - United Commercial Bank ($10 billion in assets), a U.S. bank that serves the Chinese-American community and American companies doing business in Greater China, has joined the Pulse ATM and debit network. UCB has branches and offices in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Stockton and Los Angeles and Orange counties in California.

According to a news release, Pulse EFT Association's U.S. card-acceptance agreement with China UnionPay played a role in earning the business of UCB, one of the country's largest Chinese-American financial institutions.

Pulse and its parent, Discover Financial Services, signed a reciprocal deal with China UnionPay in 2005 to accept CUP cards on the Pulse network in the United States and Discover cards on the CUP network in China.

"Our acceptance agreement with CUP helps us better serve institutions such as UCB that are looking to strengthen their connections with the Chinese market and better serve Chinese tourists and business travelers," said Leah Henderson, Pulse's executive vice president.
