U.K. bank installs NCR imaging ATMs in all 250 branches

October 18, 2007

DAYTON, Ohio - NCR Corp. is installing intelligent-deposit ATMs at all 250 of Alliance & Leicester's branches in the United Kingdom.

A&L is reportedly the first U.K. bank install no-envelope deposit ATMs across its branch/store enterprise. Following a successful pilot last year, 260 NCR Personas intelligent-deposit ATMs will be available in the branches by the end of 2007. A&L will also use NCR's Aptra self-service software, second-line maintenance and installation services.

The open-plan stores feature self-service zones, where ATMs and phone-banking service are available. A customer welcome desk and teller counters also are available.

"Customers like being able to self-serve for a wide array of quick, routine transactions and find the NCR intelligent deposit ATMs very easy to use," said Tim Neal, senior manager for A&L's retail network development. "This frees up our highly experienced staff to meet customer demand for specialist advice on a wide range of mortgage, savings and insurance products."

NCR research shows that envelope-free deposits can reduce queuing at the teller by up to 40 percent. With NCR's technology, up to 200 notes can be inserted into the ATM in one transaction, without the need for an envelope.
