Swiss retailer automates cash handling with tech from Wincor Nixdorf

November 7, 2007

PADERBORN, Germany - Wincor Nixdorf International says it plans to install its cash-management solution for cash-processing automation in stores operated by Swiss retailer COOP.

According to a news release, COOP has ordered 141 iCash systems, including software. Wincor Nixdorf also will be responsible for maintaining the solution for five years. Rollout of the systems is expected to begin in February 2008 and end by the second quarter.

The iCASH Back Office solution will map the process for removing and replenishing both Swiss Francs and euro banknotes at cash office in COOP's retail stores. The solution includes a recycling device that accepts banknotes, a forgery check on all of the notes, and the ability to dispense the cash taken in.

Nearly 150 stores will be equipped with the new technology by the time rollout is completed.
