Spark ATM, Massmart ink ATM agreement covering South Africa

October 30, 2018

Spark ATM Systems, a South African IAD and wholly owned division of Cardtronics, has entered an agreement with Massmart Group, a Walmart subsidiary, to provide bank-branded ATMs at stores under the Massmart banner, including Game, Cambridge, Makro, Rhino, Jumbo and Builders stores, according to a press release.

Massmart is South Africa's second largest retail group, operating 425 stores in South Africa and 12 additional sub-Saharan markets.

Spark will serve as the primary provider for turnkey ATM installations at 300 Massmart Group locations. Services will include terminal driving, processing, monitoring, cash replenishment and maintenance of the ATMs.

"We know we can count on Spark's nationwide scale and extensive experience in working with diverse retailers to streamline our customers' shopping experience," Gerhard Hayes, group financial services executive at Massmart, said in the press release. "From store to store, our customers will enjoy the same easy access to their cash using the best ATM technology and highest customer service levels in the South African ATM market."

ATM deployments at Massmart locations will begin in November and will be mostly complete within 12 months, the release said.
