Software reduces ATM transactions to the push of one button

March 1, 2013

"Favourite Transaction" from i-design is finding favor with Brits. Just last fall the ATM-user service was introduced by British financial institution Nationwide Building Society and already, uptake for the solution is at 75 percent among NBS customers, i-design reports.

An add-on component to the joono software platform developed by i-design, Favourite Transaction automates the transaction selection process for the ATM user. Based on past user behavior, the program preselects the cardholder's most frequently performed transactions and offers those options on an opening screen.

"It is remarkable to see 75 percent takeup of joono's Favourite Transaction feature, demonstrating how willing ATM users are at adopting innovations that make their life easier," said i-design CEO Ana Stewart. "I-design's unique expertise of the self-service user experience enables us to deliver solutions that materially changes how customers interact with financial institutions."

The user is not required to do any manual setup to use the service — it's all done by the software. Additionally, as the user's transaction habits change, the system "learns" those new behaviors and modifies the frequent transaction screen accordingly.

Ultimately, the feature allows Nationwide ATM customers to carry out their most often performed transactions with the press of a single button, once they've accessed the ATM via card and PIN. The program, which i-design described as "a global first," is now running on the entire Nationwide network of more than 2,000 ATMs.

"We always place the customer at the heart of our thinking and are delighted that they are embracing this new feature which they clearly value," said Adrian Roberts, head of ATMs and branch design at Nationwide Building Society.
