Smart Card Alliance Payments Summit 2012 will offer 'all payments' agenda

October 17, 2011

The Smart Card Alliance today announced that its Payments Summit will return for 2012 with an "all payments" agenda, covering every leading transaction platform, including EMV card payments, mobile payments and transit payments.

"The Alliance conferences drew such high attendance last year, especially our Mobile and Transit Payments Summit and our 'Roadmap to EMV Payments' track from our Annual Conference, that we decided to combine all payments themes into a single, large event," said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance.

The topics and questions that will be covered at the 2012 Payments Summit include:

  • EMV in the United States. With Visa's recently announced plans to accelerate EMV chip migration and mobile payments acceptance, what are the next steps for U.S. banks, credit unions, issuers, processors and merchants?
  • NFC and Mobile Payments.Major Near Field Communication programs are underway with Google and Isis, and millions of NFC-enabled handsets for consumers will arrive soon. How will the "wallet wars" evolve? Who will take the spotlight? Will consumers be responsive to the technology?
  • Transit Payments.Transit operators from major cities nationwide are working to move beyond open bank card fare payments pilots and beginning roll-outs that are expected to include contactless payment cards, stickers and NFC-enabled mobile devices. Which cities are going to get there first? How will mobile payments and EMV impact the transit industry?

The event will be held Feb. 8-10, 2012 at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center in Salt Lake City.
