N.Y. banks fall behind on ATM security

The Buffalo News:Increased attacks of users at ATMs 11 years ago prompted a state law in New York that mandates certain security measures at bank-owned ATMs. Such measures include surveillance cameras, enhanced lighting, and electronic door locks for ATM enclosures. But enforcement and oversight of the law is being called into question this month by a state comptroller's audit of the New York Banking Department.The report found that the regulatory agency had fallen "far short" of its annual ATM inspection goal, and it called on the department to focus inspections in high-crime areas as a better use of its resources.
