New kiosk mat helps prevent unauthorized access to PINs

BRAINERD, Minn. — In response to the growing need for increased protection against identity and information theft, Larco Manufacturing, supplier of automatic door mats, handicap wall switches and industrial safety mats, has introduced the USB Security Kiosk floor mat, according to a press release.
When users step away from the terminal, the floor mat realizes the change in pressure and works in conjunction with the kiosk's operator interface to block unauthorized access to ATMs and information kiosks.
Ideally suited for banks, hospitals, hotels, human resource stations, or any location where personal and financial information is accessible through an operator interface, the USB Security Kiosk Mat recognizes changes in mat pressure and engages or discontinues the transaction as appropriate. Sensitive information is removed from the screen as soon as the user has moved off the mat, adding another layer of security.
Placed in front of the kiosk, pressure must be applied to the mat before system log-on is possible. When pressure is removed, the USB Kiosk Mat automatically logs the user off of the system and requires proper credentials before the user can gain access to the system again. Utilizing a common plug-and-play connection with a standard USB cable, the mat can be quickly linked to the kiosk computer system and works seamlessly with existing security features.
