New card replaces travelers checks

The (San Jose, Calif.) Mercury News: American Express is plugging the Travelers Cheque Card, a new stored-value card with some interesting features.

The idea is simple: You transfer as much value as you want from your bank account or some other source on to the card, which you then use like an AmEx credit card. You also can use it to withdraw local currency at any ATM that accepts AmEx.

An AmEx card user can add a minimum of $300 and a maximum of $2,700 to the card.
