NCR, SunTrust Bank team up to deploy 1,600 SDM ATMs

SunTrust Bank, one of the nation's largest financial services companies, will deploy more than 1,600 NCR SelfServ ATMs equipped with Scalable Deposit Module (SDM) technology.

SunTrust began deploying NCR SelfServ ATMs in the Atlanta metro area and has replaced older NCR and non-NCR models at branches in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Florida, Georgia and other major metropolitan markets throughout the past year. A total of 1,200 of the new machines have now been deployed. When the project is complete, NCR will be the sole provider of deposit automation ATMs at the bank.

NCR's SDM technology lets consumers deposit up to a total of 50 checks and notes in any orientation at the same time. The technology straightens checks and notes so that they pass through the module without slowing down or stopping. It also enables perfect alignment for accurate bill validation and check codeline reading, leading to higher availability and fewer jams. Additionally, SDM-enabled ATMs truncate checks and store them in the safe, eliminating the need for daily pick up.

"Our clients are enjoying the speed, convenience and ease-of-use that comes with our new ATMs and we expect to complete the full branch ATM rollout later this year."

Since introducing SDM in the U.S. in October 2010, U.S. customers have placed orders for nearly 10,000 NCR SDM units, which enable consumers to complete a deposit in half the time of other ATMs.
