New research from RBR has determined that NCR Corp. is the world's largest supplier of multi-vendor ATM middleware and applications. Additionally, the strategic research and consulting firm found that the NCR APTRA software suite runs on more ATMs in North America and the MEA region than any other software solution.
The "Multivendor Software 2013" report from RBR shows that 740,000 ATMs globally run multi-vendor software, an increase of about 60 percent since 2009. Of the total number, 704,000 ATMs are in deployments that use one application on multiple vendors' hardware, while 36,000 are in deployments that use one vendor's application on another vendor's hardware.
According to NCR, consolidating on a single software application allows FIs to project a "consistent and rich" consumer experience across their self-service networks. In addition, the company said, a multi-vendor software environment helps financial institutions streamline their development and support operations by eliminating the need to maintain separate delivery infrastructures for each new function or service.
"Over the past several years, NCR has been engaged in a re-invention of the company around a hardware-enabled, software-driven business strategy," said Jeff Hughes, vice president and general manager of software for NCR Financial Services. "The delivery of software in a multi-vendor environment is a critical component of this strategy, as multi-vendor software streamlines a bank's development and maintenance processes and enables a dynamic — yet cost effective — customer experience."
