NCR hosts grand opening of ATM manufacturing facility in Columbus, Ga.

October 28, 2009

NCR Corp. has announced today's grand opening of its new ATM manufacturing facility in Columbus, Ga. The company announced plans to move its headquarters from Dayton, Ohio to Atlanta and to build the domestic manufacturing facility in Columbus five months ago.

According to a news release from NCR, the company celebrated the plant's opening with key officials and elected representatives from the city of Columbus and the state of Georgia, who participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a tour of the plant, in addition to viewing the production of some of the first ATMs built at the new facility.

Peter Dorsman, NCR's senior vice president of global operations, says having a manufacturing facility in the United States will allow the company to serve its clients more quickly and decrease costs:

"Our decision to bring our North American ATM manufacturing in-house was driven by our belief that as self-service ATM technology becomes more innovative and strategic to financial institutions, the ability to control manufacturing in key markets becomes a core and competitive advantage to our growth strategy."

NCR says over the next three years, 870 jobs will be created at the Columbus facility. The company also has filed for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for the building.
