Moneris now certified for EMV transactions with Amex, MasterCard, Visa

Moneris Solutions Corp., a North American credit and debit card processor, has completed host testing required to support EMV transactions for Visa, MasterCard and American Express at POS terminals in the U.S., the company announced.

Moneris got a bit of a head start in the testing process thanks to its experience with EMV during Canada's smartcard migration, said Jeff Guthrie, chief sales and marketing officer for Moneris.

"Moneris has had a great deal of experience with EMV technology, having introduced the technology to Canadian merchants over five years ago" Guthrie said. "As the leading Canadian payment processor, we are pleased to bring our EMV knowledge and capabilities to the U.S. market and to have received this important certification."

Christine Lee, president of strategic partners and emerging markets for Moneris, said the company's achievement of EMV certification will provide merchants and consumers with significant benefits related to the convenience and security of payment transactions.

"While EMV technology is relatively new to the United States, it is in wide use worldwide and has a proven ability to provide added security and convenience to debit and credit card transactions.
