Michigan FI inks deal with Diebold for ATM, branch-capture tech
August 29, 2007
NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Diebold Inc. has signed a deal with Flint, Mich.-based DORT Federal Credit Union to provide its ImageWay Branch and ImageWay ATM solutions for check imaging.
According to a news release, Diebold will provide DORT with its ImageWay Branch and ImageWay ATM products, allowing the credit union to extend imaging capabilities across channels for streamlined efficiencies and expanded offerings.
According to research by Celent, an estimated 77 percent of financial institutions with assets between $1 billion and 5 billion have adopted or are implementing imaging strategies. Image capture provides institutions with broader geographic possibilities by eliminating expensive courier and correspondent relationships, and strategically positions them to increase service offerings through remote capture at additional locations.
"The Diebold ImageWay solution will provide DORT Federal Credit Union members with much improved customer service in the form of increased availability of funds," saidDave Bucci, Diebold's senior vice president of customer solutions. "This technology will allow DORT to take full advantage of Check 21 legislation, which provides financial institutions the ability to process and clear checks electronically."
ImageWay Branch uses a browser-based, thin-client system with image-capture software and hardware, allowing FIs to automate deposits. By leveraging the technology developed in ImageWay Branch, FIs can lower their costs and accomplish branch-related objectives.
ImageWay ATM allows customers to deposit checks at ATMs without envelopes. Customers view images of deposited items and get receipts that show check images and account totals. The ImageWay ATM solution comprises three layers of technology: the Diebold Intelligent Depository Module for check acceptance, Diebold Recognition Subsystem for character recognition and image quality analysis and ImageWay Server solutions.
The credit union also opted to expand its imaging capabilities through use of Diebold's outsourcing model. Under the model, Diebold supplies hosting services and, if requested, provides balancing and proof-of-deposit activities.
