Massachusetts ATM operators jolted by jackpotting attacks

ATMs in the Massachusetts towns of Ludlow, Attleboro and Danvers, and in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston have been targeted in a rash of recent ATM jackpotting attacks.

Local Boston news station WHDH reported that four jackpotting attacks had occurred in those areas recently. The report also cited Secret Service statistics indicating that 124 jackpotting attacks have occurred nationwide within the last year.

In one localized series of attacks, a suspect was able to steal a total of $267,000 in less than one week.

"They’ll hit an area, and then move on to another area," Matt O’Neill, supervisory special agent with the U.S. Secret Service, told WHDH.
