KAL ATM software already compatible with Windows 8

Just one week after Microsoft officially launched Windows 8, KAL ATM Software has announced that it is the first ATM software provider to certify its products for the new operating system.

The announcement comes as the banking industry prepares to switch from Windows XP to Windows 7 on ATMs. As of April 2014 Microsoft will discontinue support for the XP operating system. 

"KAL has been Windows 7-ready for a long time, but we were held back by the lack of XFS driver support from the ATM hardware vendors," said KAL CEO Aravinda Korala. "KAL's RTM allows us to remove this dependency. The RTM is now available with Windows 8 along with KAL's Kalignite software suite and the world's first XFS SPs for Windows 8 from KAL."

The RTM, or retail teller machine, is a cashless ATM that prints a voucher that the customer redeems for cash. Currently, it is the only banking terminal on the market that runs the Windows 8 operating system, said a news release from KAL.

"As industry leaders in ATM software, it is hugely important for us that our customers approach periods of transition with confidence," said Steve Hensley, EVP global sales at KAL. "KAL customers will have the smoothest migration to the enhanced functionality that Windows 7 and Windows 8 offer, and can be confident that we will always be the industry leader for future banking developments."
