Japan postal service deploying biometric ATMs

Japan Times: Japan Post, the country's postal service, is expected to incorporate fingerprint-scanning, rather palm-scanning, into its ATM technology. The agency will introduce Hitachi Ltd.'s fingerprint technology to its roughly 26,500 ATMs across Japan by the end of March 2009. Hitachi, Japan's largest comprehensive manufacturer of electrical machinery, and computer maker Fujitsu Ltd., which is pushing the palm-scanning technology, have been locked in a fierce battle for the country's ATM market.
