With temperatures dropping and snow blowing, Diebold Inc. yesterday introduced an ATM cash dispenser that financial institutions can deploy outdoors.
The ATM, which is called the Opteva 522 Exterior, is weatherized to protect it from the elements.
Financial institutions can deploy the machine in athletic stadiums, amusement parks, musical venues and other high-traffic outdoor sites, where inclement weather and extreme temperatures could damage non-weatherized terminals, Diebold officials said.
The outdoor market is relatively small, said Gil Luria, vice president of research at Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles.
"This is an established market focused on events such as fairs and sporting events when a bank wants to deploy ATMs that are secure to serve a large number of attendees," Luria said.
A Fifth Third Bank executive said the Opteva 522 helps the financial institution promote its image to a number of audiences.
"The Opteva 522 makes it possible for us to expand the reach of our brand and create new touchpoints with our customers," said Curt Tiettmeyer, vice president of corporate facilities for Fifth Third Bank, which is based in Cincinnati.
The Opteva 522 holds up to five cassettes. Although Diebold is promoting the Opteva 522 Exterior as new, Luria said it is an upgrade from the manufacturer's previous generation of outdoor machines.
Diebold, the world's third-largest ATM manufacturer based on annual shipments, is headquartered in North Canton, Ohio.
As a global technology leader and innovative services provider, Diebold Nixdorf delivers the solutions that enable financial institutions to improve efficiencies, protect assets and better serve consumers.
