It's a summer of scams for Norway's ATMs

When the weather warms up in Norway, it seems, the scammers come out of their dens.

The country's ATMs have been plagued recently by skimming and cash-trapping frauds, with the latter proving to be especially popular among thieves.

In a half-dozen cities, ATMs belong to DNB, Norway's biggest bank, have been tampered with, said an article at News and Views from Norway. The article noted that the number of incidents had taken a noticeable upward swing in recent months, with 40 ATM scams reported in Oslo in just the first half of July.

Norwegians are being told that if cash is not dispensed as expected, they should stay at the ATM and contact police — presumably by mobile phone.

And as the result of a skimming incident at another ATM in Kristiansand, citizens authorities are also advising citizens to check ATMs for "unusual" devices on ATMs, the article said.
