HID Global, Dynamic Card Solutions offer instant issuance for EMV cards
November 24, 2008
IRVINE, Calif. — HID Global, a security-solutions provider, Dynamic Card Solutions, provider of instant card issuance technology, have announced plans to deliver an EMV instant-issuance solution for credit and debit cards.
According to a news release, the solution is already being used by multiple issuers of Visa-branded cards.
By combining DCS' patented CardWizard software and FCP 20/20 flat-card printer powered by HID Global's technology, financial institutions can instantly issue flat-panel EMV cards that function just like traditional embossed cards, but without raised numbers and lettering.
With 98 percent of worldwide transactions being processed electronically, the need for embossed characters on payment cards has virtually been eliminated, DCS says.
"This new solution reflects both companies' commitment to innovation in EMV instant issuance," said Spencer Clark, director of international markets for DCS. "Most issuers have outgrown the traditional model of stocking preprinted card inventory for each card they issue at every branch location. Instead, our new solution enables issuers to start with a scheme-branded white card stock, which is then fully printed and personalized — chip and stripe included."
HID Global's patented HDP printing technology in the FCP 20/20 produces a reverse image on the underside of HDP film, which is then fused to the card surface, resulting in cards with photo-quality, continuous-tone images that replicate the look of litho-printed cards. In addition, the HDP film conforms to ridges and indentations formed by embedded electronics, making the cards tamper-evident and highly resistant to wear and abrasion.
And because the non-embossed cards are personalized on-demand, customers can select from multiple background images at the branch or store location when they request a card.
