Half of a Canadian ISO's ATMs are EMV compliant

January 19, 2011

The president of Can-Do-Cash Ltd., a Canada-based ATM ISO, today said more than 50 percent of the company’s ATMs are EMV (Europay MasterCard Visa) compliant.

Joseph Arrage said Can-Do-Cash, which is based in Ottawa, met The Interac Association’s deadline for ATM networks to have at least 50 percent of their machines EMV complaint by Dec. 31, 2010. The Interac Association links Canada’s proprietary financial networks. Operators must have their entire fleet of ATMs EMV complaint by Dec. 31, 2012, according to Interac.

“We can accept and process PIN and Chip cards on about half of our machines,” Arrage said.

Can-Do-Cash owns and operates around 800 white-label ATMs in Ontario and Quebec provinces, he said. The company is in the early stages of deploying machines in Manitoba Province, Arrage added.

He praised TNS Smart Network Inc., which processes Can-Do-Cash’s transactions, for helping the company meet Interac’s deadline.

“Thanks to TNS’s industry leading certification schedule and processes, we achieved the Interac-mandated goal of 50 percent EMV,” Arrage said.
