Ghana's UT Bank has rolled out (literally) that nation's first mobile banking unit. "Bank on Wheels" was unveiled this week at the bank's annual shareholder meeting in Accra.
The mobile branch is fully equipped with state-of-the-art communication and technology systems to provide real-time online banking services, said a report from Business Ghana. The mobile branch will provide full banking services, including cash payments and withdrawals, checking and savings account origination, international money transfers, foreign cash withdrawals, ATM services and other banking transactions.
The branch vehicle is outfitted with advanced telecommunications systems, two teller service points and an additional customer service area, a monitor for the display of bank messages, an NCR ATM and a full array of safety and security features, Business Ghana said.
Deputy managing director of UT Bank Pearl Esua-Mensah said the mobile unit will allow the bank to reach out to the two-thirds of Ghana's population that remain unbanked.
"The essence of the implementation of 'UT Bank on Wheels' is to effectively and efficiently reach out to this segment of the bankable population by taking banking to their doorstep," she told shareholders.
