An incarcerated man, Patrick Marquelle Turner, 31, is accused of allegedly scamming a Florida resident into depositing money into a crypto ATM. He is currently at Wheeler Correctional Facility in Georgia, according to a Yahoo! News report.
Turner allegedly used a contraband cell phone to call a victim. The number was spoofed to display the name of the Marion County Sheriff's Office in Florida. He allegedly told the victim he had missed jury duty and needed to pay a fine at a crypto ATM. The victim deposited $5,600 in cash.
He has been extradited to the Marion County, Florida jail and faces charges of grand theft, defrauding a person older than 65, money laundering, impersonating an officer and using a communications device in the commission of a felony.
