Giesecke & Devrient today announced plans to significantly expand its global presence in the field of smartcard personalization in response to the widening migration to EMV chip-based payment cards. Following on the heels of investments in China, the Munich-based technology provider said it will focus attention on India, Canada and the U.S.
In Chennai, India, the company is in the process of opening a new personalization center that will offer complete end-to-end service designed to help Indian banks migrate to smartcard solutions. This follows the recent inauguration of G&D’s personalization bureau for EMV cards in Montreal.
Last month Giesecke & Devrient announced that it would expand EMV activities at its location in Twinsburg, Ohio, creating approximately 100 new jobs. The company also has confirmed that it will open a new personalization center in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta within the next few months.
