G&D intros BPS M5 banknote processing system

Munich-based technology group Giesecke & Devrient today announced the expansion of its product portfolio to include a high-performance banknote processing system for the commercial market.

The BPS M5 was specially designed for use in commercial banks, cash-in-transit companies and casinos, all of which need to process large numbers of banknotes quickly and precisely.

"Our customers want speed, precision and reliability," said Ralf Wintergerst, group SVP and head of the banknote processing division at Giesecke & Devrient. "The BPS M5 offers precisely these qualities. Moreover, additional functionalities can be added if required. This makes the BPS M5 a future-proof investment."

The BPS M5 features a processing speed of up to 33 banknotes a second, with the ability to process any currency. It can also handle complex operations — for instance, the machine can process and balance more than 50 different denominations and series from different currencies in all four orientations, performing computations in fractions of a second.

A large feeder with a capacity of 4,000 banknotes, fully automatic reloading, and continuous note singling ensures that banknotes are fed uninterrupted to the sensor section, where they are checked and sorted for authenticity and fitness. 

Once processed, banknotes are placed in stacker modules and automatically banded into packages of 100 notes. Packages are then shrink-wrapped into bundles of ten, totalling 1,000 notes. The BPS M5 can be connected to a fully automated final packaging system, also available from G&D.
