G&D 'first' with Durbin-compliant EMV dual interface debit card

Convego Join supports both contact and contactless payments, and includes a range of U.S. debit EMV-certified products, G&D says.

Giesecke & Devrient has announced that its new dual interface EMV product, Convego Join, is the only product available today that provides all features needed for full compliance with the Durbin Amendment.

The next gen product allows U.S. financial institutions to offer innovative credit and debit products as they migrate their portfolios, the company said in a press release.

Convego Join supports both contact and contactless payment interfaces, and includes a comprehensive range of U.S. debit EMV-certified products. According to G&D, Convego Join is the fastest and most secure EMV product on the market, with users reporting a 50 to 70 percent increase in personalization speed compared with other products available today.

"The Durbin Amendment posed some challenges to the implementation of EMV debit," Scott Marquardt, president of G&D America, said in the release. "G&D was able to meet the required functionality to support acquirer choice at the outset. We are proud to be the first company to offer both contact and dual interface debit card products that fully comply with all the requirements of Durbin."
