Delaware has advanced a bill to ban crypto ATMs.
Sponsored by Representatives Cyndie Romer and Senator Spiros Matzavinos, the bill would ban all crypto ATMs from being deployed and require removal from existing ATMs within 90 days of the effective date of the bill, according to a report by The Street.
Known as House Bill 441, it "prohibits the circumvention of the kiosk ban through cashier-assisted or point-of-sale cryptocurrency transactions and extends liability to persons who facilitate such transactions or knowingly allow such activity to occur on their premises. Violators are subject to injunctive relief, a civil penalty not to exceed $10,000, and a private right of action for damages caused by the violation."
The bill is now before the Delaware Senate for consideration.
"Scammers can and do convince innocent people to pay them significant amounts of money through these machines, and once your money goes in, it's gone forever. These kiosks are obsolete for legitimate investors and ripe for abuse against everyone else. They have no place in our state," Kathy Jennings, attorney general for Delaware, said in a press release.
If passed, Delaware would become the 4th state to ban crypto ATMs, behind Indiana, Tennessee and Minnesota.
