Cut fiber optic cable results in loss of ATM service in Calif. city

The (Victorville, Calif.) Daily Press: A contractor accidentally cut a fiber optic cable Tuesday, cutting off ATM and credit card transactions, as well as cable television, cell phones, and Internet services.Verizon spokesman John Davies said that a third party contractor near National Trails Highway and Lenwood Road miscalculated and cut the fiber optic cable — which, among other things, was responsible for a temporary loss in 911 service in Barstow and the Victor Valley.
