Co-Op targets low-income markets with new ATM and branch program

July 19, 2009

Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based Co-Op Financial Services is partnering with Express Credit Union, based in Seattle, to launch a program aimed at reaching low- and moderate-income people in communities that lack traditional banking channels.

Express CU is sending representatives to 16 local non-profit organizations to promote and offer better access to financial services to the underserved consumer. During the visits, Express CU representatives will help consumers open accounts, deposit checks, apply for loans and discuss financial matters. Cash transactions won't be supported, though through a partnership with Co-Op, Express CU is offering its members ATM access and shared branching locations.

The partnership also expands the number of branches Express CU's members can use to 18 locations in the Seattle area and 155 across the state of Washington.
