ONTARIO, Calif. - Co-Op Network, in partnership with California Center Credit Union, eFunds, WesCorp and NCR Corp., announced in a Oct. 3 news release that it has successfully captured, imaged, proofed and cleared a digital-check image from an ATM.
To test the process, Co-Op used an authentic California Center Credit Union ATM card and account. The transaction consisted of depositing a $25 check into an NCR Personas M Series ATM, which was routed through the Co-Op Network switch. The check was then consolidated on an NCR ImageMark server at eFunds and cleared through WesCorp.
"From capturing the check image at the ATM to clearing it through WesCorp, this transaction is a major breakthrough in implementing check-imaging technology across our ATM network," said Co-Op vice president of product development Kathy Herziger. "While many institutions and processors have taken a wait-and-see approach to Check 21 support, we view this as a vital service for the credit union industry and our membership. We're all very encouraged by the success of this test and are working diligently to offer our member credit unions this technology in the months ahead."
Co-Op is expected to continue to work with key partners to standardize and support a comprehensive check-imaging service across multiple terminal types. The technology should be available to Network members in first quarter 2006.
